Wow -first and foremost, thank you for the recognition!

The Kiwi-flavored Rubicon-Orbea squad got a tip of the hat from VeloNews in the June edition of the magazine that’s just now hitting subscribers’ mailboxes. The Portland-based team, which also rides to Benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation, was chosen as one of the top five “national-level amateur teams to watch in 2010″ for the Road Ragin’ column.

The magazine also featured California Giant/Specialized, Holowesko Partners, Yahoo and Team San Jose among the country’s elite amateur road squads.

Rubicon-Orbea’s Aaron Tuckerman got special mention as the team’s marquee rider, helping to shepherd younger teammates like Mike Northey and Patrick Bevin to stage and overall wins this year. Tuckerman is a veteran of the team, which is run by David and Norrene Godfrey, although he switched to Jelly Belly in 2008 before returning in 2009. The Kiwi rider planned to co-captain the team this year with former Bissell pro Omer Kem, but Kem’s growing coaching commitments prevent him from having the time necessary to travel extensively with the team. Instead, Kem will focus on mountain bike events for the Jamis Factory Team.

Rubicon-Orbea is just finishing up the Joe Martin stage race in Arkansas, and plans a full summer of National Race Calendar events and fundraisers.
